The Emina Crianza 2015 wine, created by Bodega Emina Ribera, has been awarded the Gold Medal in the prestigious Berliner Wein Trophy international wine competition. This is the most important competition of its kind in Germany and one of the most highly-renowned on an international level. This competition saw the participation of 6,700 wines from around the world.
The Emina Crianza wine originates from vineyards that are close to the company’s wine cellar, located in Valbuena de Duero, and close to the Santa María de Valbuena Monastery, the birthplace of the Ribera del Duero. Made entirely from the Tempranillo grape variety, this is a crianza that has rested for 12 months in French oak barrels from the forests of Tronçais and American oak barrels from the forests of Missouri. The wine is then perfected in bottles for a further 12 months. It has a striking cardinal red colour, with intense dark purple hues and a strong opaque surface. It is lively and penetrative on the nose, with red and black fruit aromas (such as plum, cherry, blackberry and raspberry) alongside tertiary touches which have their origins in the ageing process, such as liquorice, coffee, medium lactones, fine woods, toasted bread and so on. This crianza retains a lively structure of sweet tannins with a balanced acidity that lends it an expressive and characterful feel.
Emina belongs to Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The company’s President, Carlos Moro, created Bodega Emina Ribera in Valbuena de Duero, which also serves as the headquarters of the company’s central offices, in addition to housing the Emina Wine Museum, the La Espadaña de San Bernardo Restaurant and the Hotel Rural Emina. It is the location in which the red wines of this particular brand are created. Bodega Emina Rueda, located in the Medina del Campo region by the Oliduero oil press, is where the white and sparkling wines of this winemaking group are made.
The Emina brand is a byword for modern wines which are youthful in spirit and adapt daily to the tastes of consumers. The brand’s philosophy is based on the concepts of sustainability and innovation, two areas in which the company itself and its president Carlos Moro have been awarded prizes on numerous occasions.
