Wine has been made in this area for a long time. An old pre-Romanic village, a vaccea village from IV century BC was found near Peñafiel, its name was Pintia. Its inhabitants made wine and they left the items they used to make that kind of wine.
As you can see on the right, it was also found in this archeological site Attio’s funerary stele, a prestigious gentleman who was member of the Council of Elders of Pintia. The name of ATIO was recovered for the limited release wine made at Emina Winery.
You can learn more about the history of that gentleman, Atio, in this audiovisual record.
